Allison Dance

Allison did a Dance Class at Little Gym this year.  Overall, it was fun.  She really liked the "dance" part - tap and ballet.  She LOVES doing arabesques.  She was not a huge fan of doing the gymnastics part in the gym.  She's very timid and if she fails the first time she tries something (no matter how hard it is), she doesn't want to try again.  We're working on it, but it's a long road.

Here are pictures from "Show Week".  The Little Gym's focus is development.  So even in the dance classes, there's no recital, no strict rules, etc.  So instead, they have a Show Week where the parents get to come into the class to see what the kids have learned.

They got to walk in to a wall of bubbles before the dance portion.  Then they showed us what they learned in tap and in ballet.
And then show off their skills in the gym
She's actually smiling!  Huge!
This is Jordan's favorite part of Little Gym - the Donut.
Here's where the drama starts with Allison.  She HATES the high beam (Jordan, however, loves it).  They were supposed to walk a bit, do a forward roll and then jump off.  Allison instead keeps a death grip on her teacher.
She didn't even want to come up to get her medal, but she did it.
But then for some reason, it was MAJOR meltdown time trying to get her to take a class picture.  Not sure about that.
Like I said, overall, it was good.  She was exposed to new things and for the most part, she really tried.  She did dance from January through August.  The summer session was the rough one (but we didn't have a show week, so that was good).

She told me she doesn't want to do dance anymore though.  She said it's because of the big balance beam.  She said she wants to try the Sport Skills class.  Well, I've got new for her - they do gymnastics there too!  Maybe just a change (in class, in instructors, in kids in there with her, etc) will be good for her.

Hopefully the sports skills class goes better.  We'll keep you posted!
