One of the things we always do when the Schrenks visit, is put the guys to work. They've built a shed, built another shed after a hurricane destroyed the first one, built shelves in my laundry room, tuned up a lawn mower and MANY other projects. Brandon is okay at house projects but Kevin is GREAT (and better at telling Brandon what to do and visualizing what needs to be done). Brandon works better under his dad's instruction than on his own.
This time they hung blinds in the kitchen. (There were no blinds on this window previously. The old owners had a piece of furniture there and we didn't even realize there was a window till we moved in. It's only taken us 2 years to put blinds up).
Also in the kitchen, just to the left of the window, and not pictured, they hung a piece on our backdoor that looks like those fancy blinds-inside-the-glass-panel windows but it's really just an attachment that goes over your exisiting back door. The door thing and the new blinds have REALLY helped not blind the kids at the dinner table. They also installed a film over the two story windows in our living room. It affects the natural light a bit but it makes a HUGE difference on the heat that comes in. Even though we've had 100+ degree temperatures, our living room has been bearable, even cool! I'm bummed that I didn't get a picture of the SCAFFOLDING that we had to put up to be able to get to the top windows. I helped Brandon put it up the night before the Schrenks got here. Brandon was very proud of me (no, I did NOT stand on the very top).
We also got a new dining room table (shown here as a VERY expensive work bench). I like that it's counter height because Chloe can't put her head on our shoulders while we eat anymore. We still mostly eat in the kitchen, but now when we have company, we can all eat at the table in regular chairs, not camping chairs.
The last thing we had the guys do was hang a new piece of art we got in our front window. Like it?
Here's a closeup.....
It's leaded glass. And Kevin MADE it. That's right, my father-in-law is INCREDIBLE and made this for Brandon for his birthday gift. They've been doing leaded glass for a while and have sent us a couple of their "practice" pieces. It was all leading up to this. Isn't it BEAUTIFUL!?!?
